The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the Department of Defense (DOD) offer a resource to connect employers with qualified job seekers with disabilities through the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP).

The resource is an online database of more than 1,644 college students and recent graduates who are looking for employment. Public and private sector businesspeople can peruse candidate profiles to find employees who meet their needs. It is easy to log in to the database, and is free to all who use it.

Students who want to be included must attend a college or university that is participating in WRP. Currently there are more than 180 institutions in 40 states participating in the program. Students should contact their career center officers if their school is not enrolled.

Once a school has been selected, WRP recruiters conduct face-to-face interviews with each eligible student at the school. Recruiters provide comments about the individual and rate candidates in four areas: communication, direction, maturity and qualifications. Comments and ratings are included on each student's database profile.

In order to be eligible to participate students must be United States citizens, have a disability, and be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university with at least a half-time course load, or have graduated from such an institution within one year of the WRP interview date.

Though the program is in its inaugural year, more than 320 students have already been placed in public and private sector positions. Go to www.wrpjobs.com to see student profiles, and for instructions on how to participate.
