New Web Site Supports Latino-owned Businesses

Latinos in the United States have been making use of a Web site launched last September by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The site - an all-you-need-to-know resource on small businesses - logged more than one and a quarter million hits as of April, and is growing in popularity.

The Spanish-language site, at www.negocios.gov, is "designed to provide the most comprehensive information about SBA's programs and services for the growing Spanish-speaking community."

Consumers can go to www.negocios.gov for details about topics such as writing a business plan, starting and financing a business, as well as for information on technical assistance, accessing government contracts, exporting, signage, women entrepreneurs, and more.

Latino-owned businesses account for almost 40 percent of all minority-owned businesses, and employ approximately two million people. This equates to a contribution of more than $200 billion annually to the United States economy.

This Web site is a great tool for Latinos who want to learn about how to start and grow their own businesses. Inform yourself and turn your business dreams into reality.

Consumers can call (800) U-ASK-SBA or (704) 344-6640 (TDD) or write answerdesk@sba.gov for information about all of SBA's programs for small businesses.

The site also is available in English at www.sba.gov.
