For Latinos with Disabilities Living on Long Island, New York

The Long Island Center for Independent Living, Inc. (LICIL), in Levittown, New York, launched its newest web page in March 2002. The web page, which was designed to be easy to read, allows Nassau County residents to learn more about the services that LICIL provides to people with disabilities.

LICIL, which has been operating for more than 20 years, kicked off their Hispanic Outreach Services program in January 2001. This new community outreach program provides Nassau County's growing Hispanic community with all of LICIL's many services. They include assisting Spanish-speaking individuals to participate in the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), an innovative personal assistance program that allows people with disabilities to gain more control over their personal assistance services.

A bilingual staff is trained to assist the Hispanic community with information, referral, limited transportation, equipment loans, advocacy, and other services. More information on LICIL's services and the Hispanic Outreach Services is available at: http://www.licil.net
