Fellowships for Graduate Study Available for "New Americans"

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans has announced that the deadline for applying for financial fellowships is November 30, 2002. This program is to help New Americans, those with Green Cards or Naturalized Citizens, realize their potential and become leaders in whatever field they choose to study by helping them out with the cost of graduate school.

Thirty (30) students will be chosen out of all applicants for a fellowship for two years of graduate study in a professional field such as medicine or law, or a scholarly field, such as social science. Those chosen will be given a $20,000 maintenance yearly grant and a grant for one half the cost of tuition for the program.

To be eligible for these awards you must:

  • Either have a green card, be a naturalized citizen or have parents who are naturalized citizens
  • Not be older than 30 on November 30, 2002
  • Either be a senior in college, have a bachelor’s degree already, or be in your first or second year of graduate school
  • Be able to demonstrate your ability to do grad level work in the field you choose
  • Be creative, persistent, work hard, and be committed to the US Constitution and Bill of Rights
