Proyecto Visión ex-Director Kathy Martínez Profiled in Impact!

Impact Magazine, published by the Institute on Community Integration at the University of Minnesota, has included an autobiographical profile of Proyecto Visión's director, Kathy Martínez, in its Summer/Fall 2008 issue ("Becoming the Ones We've Been Waiting For: A Story of Work, Community, and Change). Impact also lists the Proyecto Visión Success Stories as a good resource for learning more about the real life experiences of women with disabilities. Check out the entire issue to see profiles of various women of color with disabilities.

 

Superfest International Disability Film Festival

The Superfest International Disability Film Festival is scheduled to take place on June 4 & 5 at the Gaia Arts Center in Berkeley, California. The screenings are scheduled to take place from 11-5 p.m. on Friday, June 4, and from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 5. The reception and award ceremony will take place following the screening on June 5 from 6-9 p.m. We hope to see you there! Our Coming Together: Disabled People of Color and Allies Retreat

Would you like an opportunity to connect with disabled people of color? Interested in self-care, identity and disability justice? This retreat in Michigan will provide an opportunity for disabled people of color and their allies (also all people of color) to come together and discuss topics of interest and concern to disabled people of color and those committed to their success. We will use storytelling, group time, individual activities and meditation, among other tools, to cover a wide variety of topics related to disability justice, such as individual and collective identity, ableism, racism, community, and self-care. This retreat will allow disabled people of color and their allies to build community and share practices for self-care and disability justice. Dates: September 9-11, 2011

 

NBC Universal Disability Awareness Event for Young People

NBC Universal is hosting "What Can WE Do?", a Disability Awareness Day of Dialogue on both the West Coast and East Coast. At both the East Coast and West Coast events, 12 college students/recent graduates with disabilities with high potential can participate. The goal is to encourage internships for students with disabilities, fortify outreach, identify employment/accommodation resources and increase employment in front of and behind the camera. Invited students/recent graduates will include those who are “job ready” and raring to explore careers in entertainment and/or broadcasting.  If you want to explore internship or employment opportunities in Summer 2011, read the complete announcement and contact them ASAP!. Women with DisAbilities Empowerment Fair

The First Annual Women With Disabilities Empowerment Fair is sponsored by the Houston Center for Independent Living and CROWD (Center for Research on Women With Disabilities. Its mission is to create a sacred and respectful space where women with disabilities gather once a year with the purpose of generating, creating and sharing energy of Empowerment and Hope while focusing on the physical, emotional and intellectual aspects of Woman Health in the context of disability. Date: October 30, 2010

 

COSD FULL ACCESS Student Summit for Career Exploration, Boston, MA

Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities (COSD) is conducting its fifth FULL ACCESS Student Summit and inviting up to 60 college students and recent graduates with disabilities attending colleges and universities in the New England Region.  Students in their sophomore through senior years, graduate, post graduate, post doc and recent graduates (within 3 years of graduation) are eligible to apply.  Ten select employers are also invited from the New England area and nationally to network with the students and recent graduates. Dates: November 5-6, 2010

 

Jobs Fair in Washington, DC

CAREERS & the disABLED Magazine hosts career expos for people with disabilities that brings industry and government together with people with disabilities who are entry level and professionals in all career disciplines. Their next expo will be in Washington, DC. Date: November 19, 2010
